The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) declared that the regionwide observance of Holy Week was generally peaceful, with no major incidents recorded.

According to PRO-NIR spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong, the successful implementation of a comprehensive security plan, marked by proactive policing, strategic deployment, and strong public cooperation, was key to maintaining peace and order throughout the religious period.

Over 1,000 police personnel were deployed across the region to ensure public safety and uphold the solemnity of Holy Week. From March 29 to April 5, PRO-NIR recorded 36 incidents, most of which were non-index crimes and deemed manageable.

“All incidents were promptly addressed through swift police response and effective coordination, preventing escalation and preserving public order,” Malong said.

Personnel from NOcPPO, NOrPPO, SPPO, and BCPO were strategically stationed at churches, pilgrimage sites, major highways, transport terminals, commercial hubs, beach areas, resorts, and other tourist destinations to ensure strong police visibility and efficient crowd and traffic management.

Malong added that close coordination with local government units and partner agencies contributed to the smooth conduct of both religious and recreational activities. Assistance desks and police help stations were also established to provide immediate support to the public. | GB
