Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, Aug. 28, described as a “logical choice” the many endorsements for Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez to run for congressman of the Third District.

“He is more than competent for the position. I know he can handle it,” Lacson said.

The mayor’s uncle, Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez, was recently appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

This prompted the calls for the younger Benitez to seek the congressional post.

“But I more of the impression that he is more comfortable with the executive position. I think, let’s wait for Mayor Javi to decide,” Lacson said.

Officials of E.B. Magalona led by Mayor Marvin Malacon, Murcia Mayor Victor Gerardo Rojas, and Silay Asenso Team led former Mayor Mark Golez have joined Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez and Director Benitez in endorsing the Victorias City mayor to the congressional post. | GB
