Grandma found dead, chainsaw operator killed

A chainsaw operator was shot and killed by one of the five armed suspects in Calatrava while a 68-year-old widow was found dead in La Castellana, all on Dec. 2 in Negros Occidental.

Five unidentified assailants were involved in the killing of the chainsaw operator on Saturday in Barangay Lalong, according to the police.

The 57-year-old victim, whose identity is being withheld by Calatrava police, was shot without any reason by one of the five suspects, while having a rest, with his two companions, after cutting trees.

Investigation of the Calatrava police showed that the victim succumbed to a gunshot injury.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava Municipal Hospital.

In La Castellana, the widow was believed to have been strangled to death at her residence in Sitio Odiong in Barangay Camandag.

Her body was found in her bedroom by her grandson.

Police found a plastic straw which could have been tied around her neck.

A follow-up operation conducted by the La Castellana police led to the arrest of the suspect, who is the son of the victim.

Based on the testimonies of the victim’s relatives, the 37-year-old suspect hurt his mother when he got violent.
