The Governor Roel Ragay Degamo Foundation (GRRD) has extended P200,000 in livelihood assistance to 27 former rebels as facilitated by the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion.
Negros Oriental Third District Rep. Janice Degamo, widow of the slain governor, personally turned over amount to members of the Lapulapu Peace Advocates Association in a ceremony witnessed by commander Lt. Col. Sol Zaulda at the 11IB headquarters in Barangay Salag, Siaton rccently.
In a statement, the 11IB said the GRRD assistance forms part of its continuing support to strengthen the community-based livelihood initiatives aimed at helping former rebels in their reintegration to mainstream society.
Meanwhile, the 94th Infantry Battalion, in partnership with SPAGASA, JL Consultant and HRM Services, and other key stakeholders, conducted an outreach program in Barangay Bi-ao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Aug. 5.
The outreach program offered services that benefit the community, especially school-aged children.
The 57 learners availed of free haircuts, feeding program, and school supplies.
In northern Negros, the 79th Infantry Battalion initiated tree planting and feeding programs in Barangay Puey, Sagay City.
Beneficiaries were 70 households from the Ata tribe led by tribal chieftain Christopher “Lipid” Servantes. They also received grocery packs and clothes. | GB
