Globally renowned Japanese apparel retailer, UNIQLO, is set to open its first store in Dumaguete on December 17.
The local community will now have easier access to LifeWear and enjoy a world-class retail shopping experience.
“This is our 66th branch in the country. We have more than 2,300 outlets in 25 countries worldwide,” informed Georgette Barrera-Jalasco, marketing director, who personally met with select members of the local media last week to introduce their outlet.
According to Barrera-Jalasco, who hails from Negros Oriental, the opening of UNIQLO Robinsons Place Dumaguete marks UNIQLO’s commitment to provide more Filipinos with great quality everyday clothing for their daily lives and needs. Located at the ground floor of Robinsons Place Dumaguete mall, the store features 243 square meters of sales space, which will showcase the latest lineup of LifeWear pieces for men, women, kids, and babies.
From December 17 to December 19, for every single receipt purchase with a minimum spend of P3,000 in UNIQLO Robinsons Place Dumaguete, customers will receive one free UNIQLO Limited Edition Stainless Bottle and the first 250 customers in line on December 17 will receive one free pack of 10 pieces of the well-known assorted silvanas from Sans Rival Cakes & Pastries.

UNIQLO continues to open large-scale stores in some of the world’s most important cities and locations, as part of its ongoing efforts to solidify its status as a global brand. Today the company has more than 2,300 stores in 25 markets including Japan. In alphabetical order, the other markets are Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, U.K. U.S., and Vietnam. In addition, UNIQLO established a social business in Bangladesh together with the Grameen Bank in 2010, and today there are more than 15 Grameen-UNIQLO stores, mostly located in Dhaka.
During this pandemic, UNIQLO has maintained its corporate social responsibility by giving the store’s brand of reusable face masks to frontliners as well as distributed clothing to those who have been displaced by calamities. ”We go beyond what is expected of us, or, this is really expected of us to extend assistance to those who are in need,” Barrera-Jalasco explained.
Indeed, the retail store has gone a long way since, as CNN disclosed, an employee mistakenly spelled the original name of UNIQLO, which is actually UNICLO (which stands for ”unique clothing”). When they applied for patent, the employee wrote ”UNIQLO.” The Japanese owner, Tadashi Yanai, decided to leave it as is, not expecting that in the future, the brand name, UNIQLO, would be a highly successful product. – NWI
