The Bacolod City government, through the City Tourism Office, together with the STI-West Negros University, officially began the Christmas celebration with the lights-on ceremony and the Festival of Lights, on the theme, “Christmas for Kids”, at the Bacolod Government Center Dec. 7.
It was attended by Mayor Alfredo Benitez and councilors Thaddy Sayson, Israel Salanga, Cindy Rojas, Em Ang, Al Victor Espino, Vladimir Gonzalez, Jason Villarosa, Kalaw Puentevella, and Danna Marie Cuaycong-Barzo, together with City Tourism head Tere Manalili and special assistant to the mayor, Engr. The program featured various activities, such as the Parade of Lights, the ceremonial lights-on, the simultaneous lighting of the BGC installations and lights, a song performance, and an arena dance competition, which marked a brighter and sweeter Christmas season in the city.
The Tourism Office said that aside from the Festival of Lights, the much-anticipated lights-on ceremony for the Adopt-a-Tree Program at the Bacolod Public Plaza will happen on Dec. 10, on the theme “Paskwa sa Plaza”.
The event highlights the city’s commitment to unity and environmental awareness during the yuletide season.
The ceremony begins at 6 p.m., when the plaza will come alive with dazzling holiday lights, symbolizing togetherness and the joy of the season. The public is invited to join this festive occasion and experience the vibrant holiday spirit in Bacolod City.
Before the lights-on ceremony, a Christmas chorale contest elementary level will entertain revelers, with five schools competing, showcasing their talents, and spreading holiday cheer through music. | PIO photos
