Farm caretaker killed

A farm caretaker was shot dead by another farmer at about 4:45 p.m. Jan. 8 in Sitio Bajay, Barangay III, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

The police identified the victim as Jim Erick Bruce Efenio, 32, of Purok 1, Barangay Sara-et in the city.

The police said that based on initial investigations, Rexciely Austria and the victim were on their way to the farm of Jessie Efenio to check on the banana plantation and the water tank reportedly stolen.

When they arrived on board a motorcycle, the suspect, identified as Roy Alamon, fired at them and hit the victim.

The suspect also approached and shot the victim again. Efenio was declared dead on arrival at the Valeriano Gatuslao Memorial Hospital in Himamaylan City, the police said.

The Himamaylan PNP is looking into old grudges as motive for the crime, and a hot pursuit operation was conducted against Alamon. | NND

Drug suspect nabbed

A drug suspect was arrested by the police for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, at Crossing Sumakwil in Brgy. San Jose, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental Jan. 8.

The police said that the suspect, identified as Foresto Prospero, 42, of Brgy. Tagda, Hinigaran, tried to evade the checkpoint, and when he was later arrested, yielded six sachets of suspected shabu, and a black Baja CT 125 motorcycle with a sidecar. | GB
