Four members of a family serving the New People’s Army in central Negros cut ties with the local terrorist group, and surrendered to the 94th Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Feb. 13.
Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, 94IB commander, said yesterday that the four rebels also surrendered an M16 assault rifle and a caliber 30 M2 carbine rifle with magazines containing ammunition.
Guzman said that the self-confessed squad leader of the Central Negros Front 2, whose identity is being withheld for security reasons, brought along his wife, brother-in-law, who are all combatants, and his mother, who served as a rebel supporter.
Their surrender came a week after a rebel couple and their comrade surrendered to the PNP Special Action Force in Sagay City, and brought along two .45 caliber pistols.
Guzman said the family decided to abandon the armed struggle because of hardship in the mountains. –GB
