The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said June 29 that it has approved the extension of the temporary suspension in the collection of the Green Energy Auction Allowance (GEA-All) for the July and August 2026 billing months.

This is to help ease electricity costs for consumers amid the prevailing economic challenges, the ERC said.

The GEA-All is a uniform charge collected from electricity consumers to fund payments to renewable energy (RE) developers participating in the government’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP), supporting the country’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.

The suspension covers the GEA-All rate of P0.0371 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and applies to all collection agents, including distribution utilities (DUs), retail electricity suppliers (RES), and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

The ERC approved the extension after determining that the GEA-All Fund remains financially sufficient to cover payment obligations to eligible RE developers during the suspension period.

As of June 5, 2026, the fund maintained a balance of approximately P707.47 million, which is adequate to support expected disbursements, including payments for additional RE facilities expected to begin commercial operations in the coming months, the ERC said in a statement.

The temporary suspension is intended to provide immediate relief to electricity consumers as households continue to face the effects of rising inflation and increasing cost-of-living pressures brought about by global developments.

While consumer relief remains a priority, the financial integrity of the GEA-All Fund will continue to be safeguarded to ensure timely payments to qualified RE developers, the ERC assured.

It added that a comprehensive assessment will be conducted by August to determine whether a further extension of the suspension may be warranted.

The Commission directed all collection agents to implement the suspension beginning with the July and August 2026 billing cycles, and submit compliance reports, including sample customer bills reflecting the removal of the GEA-All line item, within 15 days after the close of the August billing period.

Failure to comply may result in the issuance of a show-cause order and the imposition of appropriate penalties, it added. ||
