E.B. Magalona wins DOH reg’l award for strong health system

The municipal government of E. B. Magalona, through its Local Health Board (LHB), and Municipal Health Office (MHO), has been recognized by the Department of Health in Western Visayas for its strong local health system.

The LHB is chaired by Mayor Marvin Malacon, with Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Edmundo Janeo Jr., as vice chair.

The municipality received a plaque of recognition “for its outstanding contributions in achieving better health outcomes and stronger local health systems.” The plaque was signed by DOH6 regional director, Dr. Adriano Suba-an.

The award came with a cash prize of P50,000, the LGU said in a press release Nov. 11.

Janeo, who received the plaque during the Local Health Systems awarding ceremonies in Iloilo City Nov. 8, said that E.B. Magalona was the lone regional awardee from Negros Occidental under the 2nd to 5th class municipalities category.

Presenting the award to E.B. Magalona were Suba-an, DOH6 assistant regional director, Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones; Regulation, Licensing, and Enforcement Division chief, Dr. May Pauline Gestosani; Dr. Jessica Fama of the Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office; and Jules Bonilla, head of Provincial DOH in Negros Occidental.

Janeo was accompanied by Caroline Tumabotabo, a representative of DOH6 assigned in the town.

The DOH award was presented by Janeo to Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan during the flag-raising ceremony Nov. 11.

The mayor lauded the members of LHB and personnel of MHO for this achievement, and vowed to sustain the health programs and projects of the municipality to better serve Saraviahanons. ||
