The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region Kalahi-CIDSS turned over three completed subprojects in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental, in ceremonies Sept. 22-23.
These subprojects, with a total project cost of P6,124,330, include the concreted access roads in Sitio Anibong, Barangay Tamao and in Sitio Proper 2, Barangay Cangharay, as well as a concreted pathway in Sitio Proper, Barangay Owacan, all of the town.
The turnover ceremonies were attended by LGU officials, and community volunteers who worked hand in hand to make the projects possible, the DSWD-NIR said.
Beyond infrastructure, these subprojects reflect the community’s collective effort and are expected to bring lasting impact by improving accessibility, enhancing mobility, and supporting local development for 432 household-beneficiaries across the three barangays, it added.
Meanwhile, the Oringao Garment Workers and Producer Association, a DSWD-NIR SLP–organized association, served as supplier of 602 backpacks for Project REACH, or Reaching and Empowering a Child for Hope.
This is the third year that OGWAPA supplied the backpacks. The distribution of backpacks, all worth P1,083,600, is set to be completed on Sept. 26.
The group also joined in the distribution of goods, like tumblers and umbrellas, and P1,800 in educational assistance per beneficiary from the Kabankalan City LGU. The initiative covers 15 geographically isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA) barangays, and was launched by the City Social Welfare and Development Office in 2018.
The DSWD recognized the Kabankalan LGU with the Gawad Serbisyong Mahusay award.
In Cadiz City, a new chapter in community empowerment unfolded Sept. 22, with the official launch and blessing of the Daganian Agriculture Vendors Association in Barangay Daga.
This livelihood initiative, funded under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), brings together 30 4Ps household beneficiaries, who are now members of the association.
The project focuses on retailing rice, eggs, and frozen food products—providing sustainable income opportunities while promoting local entrepreneurship, the DSWD said. ||
