A street level target, identified as Ernesto Espera, 46, was arrested with a gun in his possession during a drug buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of the Victorias City Police Station in Barangay 5, Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, Nov. 28.

P/Lt. Col. Eduardo Corpuz, who led the operation, said Espera, of the barangay, was nabbed with 15 small heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, weighing about 5 grams and worth P34,000, drug paraphernalia, and a 9mm Luger pistol with ammunition.

Corpuz added they subjected Espera to many months of surveillance operations because his illegal drug business is on and off, and he keeps on transferring address.

He said the suspect gets his supply of drugs from Bacolod City.

The police said Espera denied owning the gun but he will still be charged for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in addition to the drug case. – Mitch Lipa
