The provincial government of Negros Occidental is committed to give P2,000 each to farmers affected by the drought.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Thursday (April 4) that the process of distribution is slow, noting that the Department of Social Welfare and Development is very careful in releasing the amount as they validate the list of beneficiaries thoroughly.
Damage to rice and corn crops in Negros Occidental hit P97.788 million as of March 27, a report by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist showed.
A total of 136 barangays, 2,585 farmers and 2,189.06 hectares of rice land in Negros Occidental are already affected by the drought.
“The moment we release the first batch, “it will be continuous already,” Lacson said. | GB
