The Department of Health-Negros Island Region Center for Health Development said Nov. 13 that it deployed to Canlaon City in Negros Oriental the Mobile Water Treatment System it received from DOH-Central Visayas.

The mobile water treatment system can produce safe and potable water from various sources, including rivers and deep wells, making it an essential component of emergency response operations, the DOH-NIR said in a post.

The unit was immediately deployed to Canlaon City, one of the areas severely affected by Typhoon Tino, to ensure that residents have access to clean and safe drinking water.

“This aims to prevent waterborne diseases and address the urgent need for potable water among displaced families and residents,” the DOH said.

The office also thanked the DOH Central Visayas for the continued collaboration and support in strengthening health emergency response, and ensuring the well-being of communities in the NIR.

As part of its continuing response efforts, the DOH-NIR, through the Human Resource Development Unit, also provided augmentation of human resources for health (HRH) under the National Health Workforce Support System (NHWSS) to various local government units in Negros Oriental to support the ongoing response operations in Canlaon.

Nineteen nurses and three public health associates (PHAs) were deployed to different evacuation sites and operation centers to assist in delivering essential health services and ensuring the wellbeing of affected families.

This initiative reflects DOH-NIR’s continued commitment to safeguarding public health and strengthening local response capacities in times of emergencies. ||
