The colors of the world, along with language, a country’s culture, norms, traditions, and values, play a significant role in making people united, cooperative, and in solidarity. They are designed to mirror and represent over 40 global skin tones. These people are a major expansion of multicultural diversity.
United Nations Day is an international day that is celebrated all over the world to honor all the work that the organization has done to promote peace around the world and all the good things they’ve done with the network of a variety of specialized agencies. The day encourages all the countries in the world to keep peace with one another and take steps to solve any issues peacefully.
When I was in my grade school and high school years, one of my favorite activities in school every October 24 is the United Nations Day culmination. Our Social Sciences teachers will require us to make one foreign flag and, on the day of the event, we will each wear a national costume assigned by our adviser.
This is also the day when we can taste different foreign foods, witness the traditional Parade of Nations, and the search for Mister and Miss United Nations with Best in National Costumes, both female and male. There is also the community singing of “It’s a small world after all”, and this song is the perfect way to showcase the different cultures of children around the world.
My Humanities and Social Sciences Class will showcase a virtual costume photo exhibit and the annual Prof. Ambrosio Pinili Somoza Lecture Series in Social Sciences, with Efren Velasco Genotiva as guest speaker through zoom.
A country’s culture is more than just the way its people practice their traditions—it’s a complete way of life, communication, norms, and values that shape up how society is formed.
This is the reason why a person seeking to travel to another country needs to have ample knowledge about its language and culture for them to understand its people. From the renaissance art of Italy to the traditional practices of India, to the ruins of Mexico, and the traditional folkdance of the Philippines, these cultures reflect the way of life in these countries.
Cultures are the product of human society, and it saves its culture by changing and transmitting to the next generation. Culture and society are counterparts, like the two faces of human development. It is secondary to society and is the man-made part of the environment and universal for human experience.
Our culture shapes the way we work and play, and it makes a difference in how we view ourselves and others. It affects our values, what we consider right and wrong. Culture is based on beliefs about race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, economic class, and custom.
The culture of any country is a snapshot of the country’s history, language, and heritage of people. While it is true that every indigenous or nomadic tribe has its customs, traditions, and culture, the place that they reside in also plays a huge role in the shaping of culture. After all, our world is about the culture of people.
Happy United Nations Day. – NWI
