The Commission on Elections has reminded eligible voters in Negros Occidental that they have until Sept. 30 this year to register to be able to vote in the May 2025 midterm elections.
Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria issued the call yesterday, after the issuance of the official calendar of activities by the Comelec for next year’s elections.
The election period will start on Jan. 12, 2025, including a gun ban, prohibition on the suspension of elective officials, and prohibition on the movement of officers in the civil service, among others.
A gun ban shall be in effect during the five-month period.
This coming Oct. 1 to 8, those who intend to run may file their certificates of candidacy while party-list groups will file their certificates of nomination and acceptance.
Ananoria said the Comelec would not allow the substitution of candidates who voluntarily withdraw their candidacy after Oct. 8.
The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups will be from Feb. 11 to May 10.
Candidates for the House of Representatives, parliamentary, provincial, city and municipal offices will allowed to campaign from March 28 to May 10. | GB
