Comelec: 72,446 application for voters’ registration in NIR

Applications received for voters’ registration in Negros Island Region (NIR) have reached 72,446 as of Jan. 17, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Of the number, Comelec processed 49,267 applications in Negros Occidental; 22,190 in Negros Oriental; and 989 in Siquijor.

The voters’ registration period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) resumed last Oct. 20 and will run until May 18 this year.

A total of 297 individuals availed of the Register Anywhere Program, of which 226 were in Dumaguete City and 71 in Bacolod City.

Based on the poll body’s latest data, as of Dec. 21 last year, the total number of applications received by Comelec nationwide is 1,020,694.

Of the number, a total of 790,028 are applying as voters for the village polls while a total of 235,274 are looking to become youth voters.

The Comelec also received a total of 278,388 applications as new registrants, aged 18 years and above. | GB with PNA reports
