Coffee processing plant inaugurated

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the inauguration of the Coffee Processing Plant in Brgy. Canlandog, Murcia, Monday, Aug. 1.

The processing plant is a joint project of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) and the Department of Science and Technology-Negros Occidental, and managed by the Murcia Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) Federation.

The project aims to empower the community and the farmers through the improvement of coffee production, packaging, and marketing, a Capitol press release said.

The inauguration of the facility was also witnessed by Murcia Mayor Victor Gerardo Rojas, Canlandog Brgy. Capt. Reynaldo Gawan, PEMO head Julie Ann Bedrio, DOST OIC provincial director Glady Reyes, local officials, and association members.

Lacson said he hopes that the project will be able to continuously help the farmers and their families, as well as inspire the younger generation to develop interest in coffee farming.

The ISF Federation, headed by its president, Dionredo Santillan, also took their oaths of office before Lacson, as part of the activity.||
