The cloudseeding operation of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) in Negros Occidental is expected to start this week, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday.
In a dialog with some sugar planters, Lacson said he was told that they are not contented with natural rain, especially in rainfed areas.
The BSWM is now coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines for the conduct of the cloudseeding operation.
In March, the BSWM did not conduct cloudseeding due to lack of seedable clouds, which it said may also have an effect on the mango plantations in portions of northern Negros and Guimaras.
Two months after, Lacson said the BSWM representatives told him that it is now the best time for cloudseeding as they already observed seedable clouds.
The conduct of cloudseeding may induce more rains, which is being welcomed by farmers, he added. | GB
