The Anakbayan group calls on the Commission on Human Rights to conduct an investigation on the alleged harassment by members of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army resulting in the arrest of their regional chairman Harlyn Balora.
In a press conference Monday, the group said Balora is a victim of “warrantless arrest”.
They claimed that the PNP and Army soldiers forcibly entered the residence of one of their members in Sitio Montara, Barangay Camang-Camang, Isabela in Negros Occidental, where Balora was staying.
The group said Balora’s name was included in the charge sheet after the arresting officers allegedly recovered evidences against her.
Balora is presently detained at the Isabela Municipal Police Station, and is scheduled for transfer to the quarantine facility in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City.
Also at the press conference are members of the League of Filipino Students, who expressed their support to the jailed Anakbayan officer.
The LFS members said some of them were also victims of red-tagging by the government.
They called on the CHR to investigate the alleged militarization activities of the military. | MML
