Two more children have died due to severe dengue complications, raising the city’s toll of probable dengue fatalities to five, as of Sept. 2, the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) said Sept. 16.
The CHO said that the fourth fatality, a 9-year-old boy from Barangay Mansilingan had an onset fever Aug. 28 while at school, and informed his mother after he got home. He was given paracetamol but no consultation was done.
After his condition worsened, he was admitted Sept. 1 and was diagnosed with severe dengue and hypovolemic shock.
He suffered massive pulmonary hemorrhage and died Sept. 2, the CHO said.
Meanwhile, an 8-year-old boy from Barangay 16 had fever Sept. 1, followed by severe abdominal pain and vomiting.
The CHO said he was admitted Sept. 7 but died the following day due to severe dengue, alongside pre-existing conditions, including disseminated tuberculosis and severe pneumonia.
City health surveillance records showed 666 dengue cases since the start of this year, with five reported probable deaths, two of them from Mansilingan, and one each in Villamonte, Granada, and Barangay 16.
Mansilingan logged 82 dengue cases, Handumanan with 58, and Estefania with 53. | TMD
