Isabela Therese Dedel did not expect to pass, let alone rank, in this year’s Fisheries Technologists Licensure Exam (FTLE).

“However, I kept a positive mindset,” said Dedel, who garnered an 89 percent rating, placing her in Top 10 in the October 2024 FTLE.

She is among the 40 new fisheries technologists from Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU).

A Class 2024 Bachelor of Science in Fisheries graduate at CHMSU Binalbagan Campus, the topnotcher said that aside from religiously reviewing her notes, she and her fellow CHMSU exam takers closely observed fisheries professionals in the field to prepare for the exam.

Of the 63 first-time takers from CHMSU, 38 passed, as well as two repeat takers, giving the university a 61.54 percent passing rate, it said in a press release Oct. 17.

The national passing rate is 66.60 percent, as the Professional Regulation Commission said Oct. 16 that 1,005 out of 1,509 examinees hurdled the licensure examination given early this week.

Dedel, a resident of Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City, congratulated her fellow passers.

“I am thankful to my family, friends, and God for being there with me throughout my journey. I am also most thankful for the incredible support of CHMSU College of Fisheries faculty,” she said.

CHMSU College of Fisheries dean Imee Perante congratulated all the passers and urged those who failed to use the setback as a motivation when retaking the exam next year. ||
