The City Legal Office and the Permits and License Division should ensure that all bars and drinking establishments in Bacolod have secured the necessary permit/s before operating.

The call was made by the Sangguniang Panlungsod as it approved a resolution May 21 urging the two offices to inspect the mayor’s permit of bars and drinking places in the city.

Councilor Jason Villarosa, who authored the resolution, said it has been confirmed that a number of bars and drinking establishments in Bacolod are currently operating without mayor’s permit, hence the need for an inspection to determine the exact number and the appropriate actions to be taken under City Ordinance 565-2011, or the Revised Local Revenue Code of Bacolod.

“The nature of the business involving the sale of alcoholic and intoxicating beverages entail stricter regulation, due to the effects potentially brought by alcohol consumption, which include acts of violence and other life-threatening gestures,” Villarosa added.

The resolution was an offshoot of a stabbing incident in a bar in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod May 13, that claimed the life of a Talisay resident. One of the suspects, a college student, surrendered to the police the following day, and has been charged with homicide.

The bar where the stabbing occurred was found to be operating with no business permit and has been shut down. | CGC
