The Central Negros Electric Cooperative said Aug. 16 that its average residential rate this billing month decreased by P2.5077 per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed.

This means that member-consumers of Ceneco will pay P10.8380/kWh, from last month’s rate of P13.3457/kWh, Atty. Arnel Lapore, acting general manager of the electric cooperative, said in a statement.

Lapore said the downward adjustment was mainly attributed to the decrease in the total generation charge of around 21.55 percent, following the P3.8230/kWh reduction in the cost of electricity in the spot market.

Ceneco said the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) price went down to P6.6063/kWh, from the previous charge of P10.4293/kWh.

The halt in the collection of additional Universal Charge for Missionary Electrification (UCME) of P0.0433/kWh also contributed to the lowering of this month’s rate.

Despite the rate decrease, consumers were urged to conserve energy to avoid paying high electricity bills, Lapore added. | CGC
