The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. said this afternoon, Dec. 18, that its average residential rate this billing month is P10.7694 per kilowatt-hour, or a decrease of P0.9754/kWh from last month’s rate of P11.7448/kWh.

The rate reduction is attributed to the decrease in total generation charges by 10.82 percent, compared to previous month, due to a drop in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) price of P6.3205/kWh from P7.8781/kWh, Ceneco acting general manager, Atty. Arnel Lapore said.

Lapore explained that pass-through charges, equivalent to P9.5828/kWh of the total power rate, include the Generation and Transmission charges, ERC-approved adjustments, and government subsidies and taxes.

“Only P1.1866/kWh of the power rate goes to Ceneco through the Distribution, Supply, Metering (DSM) charges for its administrative and operational services, and the Reinvestment Fund for Sustainable Capex,” he stressed, adding that since 2010, the power coop’s DSM and RFSC rates have not changed.

“In monitoring the monthly electricity usage, consumers are advised to look at their kilowatt-hour consumption and not on the bill amount since it varies depending on the pass-through charges. Electricity consumers are also reminded to conserve energy to avoid paying high electricity bills,” Lapore said.

Meanwhile, he said that Ceneco won the Customer of the Year award during the First Gen’s Customers’ Appreciation Night Dec. 7. Also known as the “Bakawan Award”, it is the most significant recognition during the ceremony.

The power coop was acknowledged by First Gen as its partner in advocating for cleaner and greener world, and named it the “Decarbonization Champion for the Year 2023”.

The plaque of recognition was received by Lapore, Ceneco president Dwight Carbon, and members of the Board of Directors Ariel Guides, Jojit Yap, Antonino Panique, Nicanor Gerald Jison, Eugenio Velasco Jr., and Noel Alarcon.

Ceneco signed a 10-year power supply agreement with First Gen, one of the leading renewable power companies in the Philippines, Aug. 8. ||
