The Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. said Wednesday that its Reclamation Feeder 5 (RF5) at the reclamation area in Bacolod City experienced a “distribution line insulator breakdown” that caused widespread power interruptions at 12:57 a.m. Oct. 15.

“For some unidentified causes, the automatic tripping mechanism of the RF5 recloser failed to function despite the danger detection, which led to a flashover that burned the electrical cables, including the recloser,” Ceneco acting manager Ervin Stan Leo Ticar said in a press statement.

He said that Reclamation Feeders 1 to 5, which are all connected to the Reclamation Substation, automatically went offline as a result of the event, and Ceneco technical personnel composed of engineers, dispatchers, and linemen promptly took necessary steps to fix the problem.

“Given the severity of the power trouble, it took our technical team a number of hours to fully fix the damage,” Ticar said, adding that as per their emergency data, Reclamation Feeder 1’s power was restored at 7:47 p.m., Reclamation Feeder 2 at 6:17 p.m., Reclamation Feeder 3 at 6:36 p.m., Reclamation Feeder 4 at 9:53 p.m., and Reclamation Feeder 5 at 7 p.m., all on Oct. 15. ||
