Almost 4,000 residents in different barangays of Bacolod City received financial assistance today from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia oversaw the distribution of DSWD financial assistance, facilitated by Senator Bong Go, at the BCGC lobby.

Go’s office, represented by Samantha Dela Peña, also distributed lunch packs to the beneficiaries and raffled off mountain bikes, shoes, and tablets, and gave an additional P2,000 each to the fire victims.

Aside from financial assistance from the DSWD, some beneficiaries also receive prizes in a raffle facilitated by the office of Senator Christopher Lawrence Go at Bacolod Government Center.

Of the total number of beneficiaries, 34 families are fire victims from Barangays 12 and Alijis. Each family received P10,000.

The other beneficiaries are market vendors from the three major public markets of the city- Libertad, Central, and Burgos, and from other sectors. Each beneficiary received P3,000 in financial aid.

The distribution areas include the Bacolod City Government Center, Gonzaga Gym in Barangay Taculing, Libertad Market, and the Marapara Gym.

The Department of Trade and Industry, meanwhile, offered free training on entrepreneurship to the fire victims.

The AICS is part of DSWD’s protective services for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable/disadvantaged individuals.

On Sept. 1, Leonardia handed out financial assistance to 454 persons with disabilities, also at the lobby of the BCGC. — MML
