The Negros Occidental provincial government is giving P2 million to the earthquake-stricken Bogo City in Cebu province, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Monday, (Oct. 6).
Lacson also encouraged other local government units (LGUs), if their budget allows it, to adopt LGUs in Cebu affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Sept. 30.
Bogo City was adopted by the Negros Occidental provincial government, the governor said.
Aside from extending financial assistance, the province’s One Negros Response Team, composed of relief and rescue personnel of the provincial government and several LGUs, were also sent to Cebu last Friday.
The Negros Occidental provincial government dispatched two water tankers, two mobile water filtration trucks, an ambulance unit, a rescue truck, and two utility vehicles.
In a report, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the One Negros Response Team distributed 92,100 liters of potable water supply to the affected families in Bogo City as well as in Tabuelan and Borbon towns as of Oct. 5.
A total of 921 families composed of 4,606 individuals benefited from the water supply delivery.
Collapsed structure search and rescue teams as well as medical personnel from the cities of Sipalay, San Carlos, Sagay, Cadiz, Escalante, Silay and Talisay, and the municipality of Toboso were also deployed to Cebu.
Lacson said the One Negros Response Team will be pulled out from Cebu on Oct. 10, except for the team from Victorias City, which arrived only on Oct. 6. | GB
