Following its successful “Study Now, Pay Later” scholarship program in Darwin, Australia, the Negros Occidental provincial government is considering its expansion by sending more scholars to the “Land Down Under”.

As of this year, a total of 17 scholars from three batches have already graduated.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently attended the graduation rites of the latest batch of Negrense scholars in the Early Childhood Education and Care Program at the Alana Kaye College and Commercial Cookery Course at the International College of Advanced Education.

Lacson said he is very happy with the results, adding that the province will continue sending more scholars to the two schools.

He also encouraged local government units to sponsor a student to study as a scholar in Australia.

“The graduates are enjoying a life-changing experience. Most of those already working in Australia are supporting their families in Negros,” Lacson said.

The scholarship costs about P1 million and the recipients are each given five years to pay for it, with zero interest. | GB
