Minors will no longer be allowed to enter the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon in Bacolod City, starting Jan. 7, with the fast spreading of COVID-19 Omicron variant.

This is to send a message to parents that minors should again stay home, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said.

By banning the entry of minors, Lacson said there is no reason for parents to bring their children outside their homes.

While it is a sad decision for him since he’s been seeing young kids enjoying the lagoon, “I think the message is clear that we have to be vigilant against COVID-19,” he stressed.

Lacson, in his executive order, said that children below 13 years old are not yet vaccinated, and are, therefore, more prone to COVID-19 infection, especially the Omicron variant.

He added that 50 percent venue capacity will be allowed in the area, and is open to the public from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Minimum public health standards prescribed by the Department of Health shall be strictly enforced at all times, with emphasis on temperature checks and observance of physical distancing, as well as the wearing of mask while in the park.

The Capitol Lagoon was reopened to the public Dec. 13, after more than a year of being closed, due to the pandemic. –GB
