The Department of Education Division of Bacolod City opened the annual journalism fest for students May 2 at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.
The Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), that will end on May 4, gathers budding campus journalists from DepEd elementary and secondary schools to showcase their prowess.
They will compete in news and feature writing, sports and editorial writing, editorial cartooning, copyreading and headline writing, photojournalism, column writing, and science and technology writing, collaborative desktop publishing, and television and radio broadcasting.
Mayor Alfredo Benitez said in a city press release that he is excited for all the students as they prepare to represent Bacolod City in the regional level. He stressed that in everything that they do, the city government is always at their back.
Joining Benitez at the opening rites were Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, DepEd Region 6 director Ramir Uytico, DepEd Bacolod SDS Reynald Gico, assistant division superintendent Lynee Peñaflorida, and UNO-R president, Fr. Joel Alve, among others.
All of them expressed their support to this year’s theme of upholding truth and editorial judgment in the face of artificial intelligence. ||
