Businessman gunned down in Himamaylan

An unidentified gunman shot a businessman dead while a sugar farm overseer was injured in another shooting incident, all in Negros Occidental on Feb. 10.

The first victim, a 46-year-old businessman whose identity is being withheld by the police, was attending to a customer at his store on Rizal Street in Barangay 4, Himamaylan City when the assailant fired at him Saturday night.

A witness said the gunman was wearing a white T-shirt.

The Himamaylan City Police Station reported that the victim was hit in the nape and was declared dead on arrival at the Valeriano Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital.

A bullet shell believed to be used in a caliber .45 pistol was recovered by investigators.

In a radio interview, PLt. Col. Anthony Grande, Himamaylan City police officer-in-charge, said that they have identified a person of interest while they are looking into a grudge as the motive.

Meanwhile, an hacienda overseer was injured also on Saturday night after he was shot by an unidentified man at Hacienda Jalandoni in Barangay Buenavista, Murcia town.

The victim, whose identity was also withheld by the police, was on his way to attend a wake when he was shot outside his residence.

He is being treated at a private hospital in Bacolod City.
