Incumbent Vice Mayor Jerry “Didi” Jover is challenging movie and television actor Javier “Javi” Benitez, son of former Rep. Alfredo Benitez, for the mayoralty post of Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Jover, whose term ends on June 30 next year, announced his intention to run for mayor Sept. 8, which coincided with the birthday of Mama Mary, adding he is a devotee.

He said he is 100 percent sure of his decision.

“No backing out, and its non-negotiable,” he said in a statement made three weeks before the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy on Oct. 1 to 8.

He admitted he is fighting a “giant”, and appears to liken himself to David versus Goliath, adding he is determined to win the battle.

“Yes, I don’t have money, but I know God won’t forsake me in this upcoming battle,” Jover stressed.

Javi is the nephew of incumbent Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez, who was supported by Jover and incumbent Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca in the 2019 elections.

Palanca is running as second nominee of Abang Lingkod partylist group, and was assured of full support by EB Magalona officials, led by Mayor Marvin Malacon. – GB
