The Bacolod City Police Office assured the public that those behind the series of online threats circulating in social media and targeting educational institutions will be held accountable.

The assurance came after Sum-ag National High School and Bacolod Tay Tung High School received threats through social media posted by dummy accounts.

BCPO director, P/Col. Eugene Rebadomia, confirmed Oct. 13 that an investigation is ongoing to identify those behind the threats.

Authorities are looking into whether the posts originated from the same group as those in Bago City, or were merely reposts with similar wordings.

Rebadomia said the police, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and Anti-Cybercrime Group are coordinating closely with the schools, and considering all angles in tracking down the culprits.

“My appeal to the parents is that they should ensure that their children’s posts do not cause disturbance or threats to others,” he said.

Classes at Sum-ag National High School were suspended yesterday as a precautionary measure after the threat surfaced Monday evening.

Bacolod Tay Tung High School maintained regular operations under heightened measures after also receiving a threat Tuesday afternoon.

Rebadomia noted that seven alleged school threats had been logged, so far, this year.

Similar threats were also reported this week affecting Victorias National High School in Victorias City, and Ramon Torres National High School in Bago City, both in Negros Occidental.

Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region director, Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales, earlier said that threats of violence, whether online or offline, will be dealt with, in accordance with the law. | TMD
