The Sangguniang Panlungsod urged Bacolodnons April 15 to observe health and safety precautions during the Holy Week observance in view of the high heat index.

On motion of Councilor Em Ang, jointly seconded by councilors Israel Salanga, Simplicia Distrito, and Celia Matea Flor, the SP passed the resolution recommending safety precautions.

The Holy Week is a significant religious occasion for Filipinos, and many Bacolodnons traditionally conduct ‘Visita Iglesia’, hold processions, and on Easter Sunday, visit beaches, parks, and other outdoor destinations, the SP said.

But with high heat index forecasted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration during the Holy Week, there is need for extra precaution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Bacolodnons, especially when attending outdoor activities and events.

It also called on the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other hydrating fluids; wearing light, loose-fitting clothing and hats to protect against the sun; avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak hours; and be mindful of personal health and seek medical attention if experiencing heat-related illnesses. | CGC
