The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod is urging additional funds for the purchase and free distribution of commonly used and maintenance medicines for the city’s senior citizens, persons with disability pregnant women, children, fisherfolk, ordinary laborers, and those unemployed.

The request, addressed to the City Health Office, through the Office of Mayor Greg Gasataya, is contained in the resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito and approved by the SP last week.

“Current funding levels and supply volumes (at the City Health Pharmacy operated by the CHO) are often insufficient to meet the increasing demand for maintenance and commonly used drugs”, hence the request, Distrito, chairperson of the SP Committee on PWD Affairs stressed.

He said it is “imperative to extend the free supply of essential and maintenance medicines to various barangay health centers to bring these life-saving medicines closer to the people and ensure that they are free of charge and strictly not for sale.”

Distrito said the intended beneficiaries are among the most economically and physically at-risk sectors of society, and must be prioritized for free access to these medicines. | CGC
