The Sangguniang Panlungsod requested on Wednesday, April 19, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines to investigate an alleged prewar tunnel discovered in Brgy. 39, Bacolod City.

Councilor Jason Isidro Villarosa, chairperson of the SP Committee on Tourism, who authored the resolution approved by the sanggunian during their regular session April 19, said that “a brick wall, shaped like a tunnel, was discovered by personnel of Anchorville Construction while digging for a drainage project along Roxas Street, near Planta Hotel in the barangay.

Bacolod City Councilor Jason Isidro Villarosa posted these photos of a brick wall, shaped like a tunnel, discovered by construction workers near Planta Hotel April 18.

The construction workers found bricks etched with “H.DE. JALANDONI” as well as a rusted wheel part believed to be that of a kalesa, or horse-drawn carriage, Villarosa said.

“The National Historical Commission of the Philippines might take interest over the matter as such is relevant to its purpose,” the councilor said in requesting the Commission to investigate such discovery, to determine if it has historical value./CGC
