The Bacolod City government has extended assistance to the victims of a vehicular accident involving a city-owned tourist bus in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Friday (June 14).

The incident claimed the life of public school teacher and caused injuries to more than 30 others, among them 32 teachers of Paglaum Village Elementary School in the city.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this tragic accident to ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” Benitez said in a statement.

The mayor said that the city government has provided hospital assistance to all the victims and also instructed the Department of Social Services and Development to assist the victims in their needs and facilitate the immediate release of their assistance.

“We are coordinating with local hospitals to ensure that the injured victims receive the best medical care available,” Benitez said.

The teachers came from a teambuilding activity in Sipaway Island, San Carlos City.

The tourist bus fell on its side when the brakes failed while the driver was negotiating downhill along Purok Talus in Barangay Igmaya-an, according to the police. | GB
