The Diocese of Bacolod is mourning the passing of two members of the clergy, Msgr. Felix Pasquin and Rev. Fr. Romeo Empestan, almost the same time on Sunday.

Both Pasquin and Empestan died at past 9 a.m., according to a statement posted on ADSUM Diocese of Bacolod, the official social media account of the diocese.

Prior to his death, Pasquin, 77, served as vicar general and social communications head of the diocese, and rector of the San Sebastian Cathedral.

He used to serve as the parish priest of San Diego Pro Cathedral in Silay City, Our Lady of Candles, among other parishes.

Empestan, who was considered as the father of Basic Christian Community in Negros Occidental, also served as coordinator of the Diocese of Bacolod Pastoral Center.

Also known to be an advocate for social justice, in 2017, Empestan launched his book, “The Struggles of the People and the Church of the Poor in Negros in the 70’s to 90’s – A Memoir”. | GB
