Exactly one year and one day after he survived an attempt on his life, Mark Anthony Cubos was shot dead at about 1 a.m. Sept. 20 in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City.
Police Station 3 commander, P/Major Richard Fajarito, said in a radio interview that residents in the area heard several gunshots and later saw a man face down on the ground with his arms and feet hogtied. He was shot several times in the head and he was identified through his driver’s license.
Responding policemen recovered at the crime scene a piece of carton with the messages “El vigilante drug lord warriors” and “Segi pa! Segi pa! Sigeha nyo kay Interes palang ini sa sini nga bulan” scrawled on both sides.
The investigators said they noticed a similarity to what had happened several weeks ago on the beheading of another drug personality, identified as Glenn Paul Castillo, whose body was found in Barangay 38 while the head was recovered in Barangay 2, both in Bacolod.
A piece of cardboard with a message was also left at the crime scene.
Operatives recovered near the body of Cubos 26 fired cartridges of an M16 armalite riffle.
The incident occurred in a dark and secluded grassy portion of Purok Camansi in Barangay Banago, with no closed-circuit television cameras installed near the crime scene, the police said.
Fajarito said they will coordinate with the family of Cubos for further investigation, and will look into his possible connection with the other drug personalities.
Cubos survived an ambush on Sept. 18, 2020 while he was driving his car along Villa Angela Subdivision in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City. He was a drug surrenderer in the Oplan Tokhang campaign of the Bacolod Police Station 2. –MML
