The request of Mayor Alfredo Benitez for a new chief of the Bacolod City Police Office has been granted by Camp Crame, almost a month before the retirement of its outgoing police director, P/Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, from police service.
P/Col. Noel Calderon Aliño yesterday assumed command of the BCPO, in acting capacity, as ordered by P/Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, regional police director of Western Visayas.
Martir, who served as BCPO director for more than a year, is retiring from police service on May 14.
Aliño served as acting provincial police director of Iloilo and Regional Intelligence Division chief of the Police Regional Office 6.
Benitez requested for the appointment of a new BCPO head after expressing his alarm over incidents of human body parts dumped in different areas of the city the past several months.
The mayor said he wants a result-oriented city police chief, who also have the experience to discipline the police force, and who does not take things lightly.
Benitez, who attended the BCPO turnover of command ceremony, said he wants Aliño to look for ways to address the dumping of human body parts, as he also expects a high level of service to be rendered to Bacolodnons.
Aliño accepted the challenge as he vowed to further maximize police visibility in Bacolod.
“Crime deterrence is police visibility,” Aliño stressed in an interview after the turnover of command ceremony.
He also vowed to do his utmost best in protecting the people of Bacolod, utilizing the experiences gained during his assignment at the Manila Police District.
Aliño said he will never tolerate any wrongdoings among the BCPO personnel, and he will hold liable police commanders for crimes that may take place in their areas of responsibility.
Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya also witnessed the change of command ceremony./GB
