Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on Wednesday, Oct. 2, announced the nullification of the results of the Asenso Convention held on Sept. 15, which aimed to select those who will fill the two slots for city councilor under the Asenso Bacolod alliance.

In a statement issued through his spokesman, Singcang-Airport village chief Caesar Distrito, Benitez noted that many of the barangay captains did not abide with his order to exercise neutrality in choosing the two candidates.

Benitez said that he will now personally choose the two who would come either from among the six nominees or outside of the nominees.

His criteria for selecting the two remaining slots are winnability, loyalty to the party, and the ability to perform the job well.

Vying for the two slots are former Councilor Homer Bais, barangay captains Jose Ma. Leandro Norberto De Leon of Vista Alegre, Jhun Marby Orola of Barangay 26, Elmer Villanueva of Barangay 40, Teodoro Yulo of Barangay 34, and businessman Rico Fernando Villafuerte.

Yulo, who got 10,910 votes, and De Leon, who garnered 9,440 votes, led the six nominees during the convention.

Benitez said that he will personally name his choices when he will announce the final slate of Asenso Bacolod, from congressman, mayor, vice mayor down to the 12 councilors. | GB
