P/Col. Timmar Alam assumed the post of officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NORPPO) Feb. 2.
Alam took over the NORPPO command from P/Col. Lito Patay, who was temporarily designated as police provincial OIC, following the administrative relief of P/Col. Criscente Tiguelo, after a policeman shot three police officers and a civilian in Sibulan town last month.
P/Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), installed Alam in a ceremony witnessed by Governor Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria and other PRO-NIR officials.

Alam previously served as chief of the PRO-NIR Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division.
Ibay said that unity, discipline, and collective commitment among personnel remain vital to sustaining peace and order.
Sagarbarria urged Alam and all police chiefs to step up their efforts in the fight against illegal drugs as he emphasized the need for strong, coordinated, and consistent actions to build a safer and better Negros Oriental.
He expressed full confidence in Alam as NORPPO OIC, citing his professionalism and ability to lead with firmness and compassion amid evolving challenges. | GB
