The request of airline companies for additional flights to the Bacolod-Silay Airport is being considered as fresh COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental continue to go down since last week.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is considering the request of airline companies for more flights daily because of the easing of travel restrictions.

Lacson said he will discuss first with the members of the Incident Management Team the number of flights that may be granted to the three airlines carrying passengers to Bacolod-Manila and Bacolod-Cebu, and vice versa.

Since last week, Negros Occidental logged low double digits in the number of new cases, and 13 on Feb. 20, all local infections.

No COVID deaths were recorded for a couple of days now, and Lacson said that the Capitol will continue to monitor the situation and is hoping that cases will further decrease to a single digit each day.

The provincial government might also resume the five day work week for Capitol employees starting on March 1.

Last week, Provincial Administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, said they are considering the resumption of the on-site work arrangement at Capitol if the downtrend of cases will continue.

Lacson said he is also considering the lifting or shortening of the curfew hours, with the lowering of the alert level status.

But he said he will consider the sentiments of the barangay captains that because of the curfew, they can control the movement of residents, particularly the minors, adding that incidents of crimes against property and against persons have also decreased. – MML
