The festive sounds and sights have started to build up in my hometown as the 24th Cauayan Lubay-lubay Festival held its grand opening on Saturday, Jan.20.
The opening day was also highlighted by the ground breaking rites for the P19-million Cauayan Super Health Center and the Inter-Barangay Zumba competition.
Major John Rey Tabujara expressed thanks to Sen. Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go for his assistance in the funding of the Super Center and other health programs of the town.
The center is expected to extend to townsfolk a 24-hour health service for cases that do not require major procedures.
The opening day was preceded by a flurry of activities, which included a job fair on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the celebration of cooperatives on Jan. 18 and the Overseas Filipino Workers’ Day on Friday, Jan. 19.
Mayor Tabujara called on officers and members of the Cauayan Association of Responsive and Empowered OFWs to strengthen their organization so that they can continue getting the support of the local government unit. The activity was held through the efforts of the LGU’s Public Employment Service Office and the Association.
The Agro/Aqua Fair showcasing the produce of the town’s farms and coastal waters was opened on Saturday. Also held was the Barangay Day.
On Sunday, Jan. 21, sports activities, including boxing, sikad race and the Inter-Barangay Mobile Legend tournament, are calendared, along with the coronation of the fiesta queen competition among public sector agencies, a fundraiser.
Also set are DepEd and Sectoral Day.
Monday, Jan. 22, is slated as Central Philippine State University Day with Jan. 23 calendared as Cauayan Central School Community Day. Also slated are mass wedding rites.
A religious procession will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 24 to celebrate the Feast Day of the town patron, St. Paul.
The day will be capped by the Lin-ay sang Lubay-lubay pageant.
Last year’s winner, Alliah Janine Al Rashid, who went on to win the Lin-ay sang Negros title, will crown her successor.
Capping the fiesta celebration are the Lubay-lubay street dance competition and the celebrity concert featuring Siakol and Vjosh Tribe.
Mayor Tabujara in a video post on his official Facebook page extended the invitation to fun lovers in neighboring towns and cities to join them in their celebration of resilience endurance and adaptability as reflected by the swaying of the bamboo, or ‘kawayan’.

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (2 Corinthians 4:8-9) | NWI
