The Grupo Progreso team of incumbent Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia will be known today, as they are expected to file their Certificates of Candidacy for the May 2022 National and Local Elections.
Leonardia and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who are both gunning for their third term, respectively, will present their candidates at 9 a.m. in a hotel at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod, to be followed by a press conference.
The team will then attend the midday mass at the San Sebastian Cathedral, and will file their COCs at the nearby city Comelec after.
City Administrator Em Ang, who seeks to return to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, said the lineup for councilors has already been completed, even with the transfer of the three incumbents to the other camp.
The GP candidates for councilor include six incumbents seeking re-election, one returnee, and five new aspirants. Of the five, two are old members of GP and three are newcomers, she added.
The re-electionists are councilors Cindy Rojas, Renecito Novero, Dindo Ramos, Carl Lopez, Archie Baribar, and Israel Salanga. The other bets for SP will be presented by Leonardia, Ang said.
Ang also said they are still a formidable team even with the transfer of the other members. “The GP team is consists of officials who have made a name and showed a heart for public service,” she stressed.
The mayor is expected to highlight accomplishments and will discuss the plans and programs for the next three years in line with his development agenda. — MML
