NegOcc marks 76th Negros Island Victory Day

The provincial government of Negros Occidental paid homage to World War II Negros heroes at the 76th Negros Island Victory Day today, Sept. 9, at the Capitol Lagoon and Park in Bacolod City.

As per record of the Philippine Veterans  Affairs Office, Negros Occidental has 16 Negrense veterans still alive, Ana Marie Lucasan of the Office of the Governor, said.

“Your bravery and strength defended us. You death on the battlefield freed us. Your heroism, we honor today in a special way on the 76th Negros Island Victory Day,” the Capitol said.

Negros Occidental officials pay homage to World War II Negros heroes, today, Sept. 9 at the Capitol Lagoon and Park in Bacolod City.

The commemorative activities started 8 a.m. with a welcome message from Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, followed by wreath-laying ceremonies at the Monument of WWII Veterans.

Leading the wreath-laying rites was  by Provincial Veterans Association officer Elan Jane Tuvilla, the veterans district presidents, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members.

Joining them were Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson with Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, and Ferrer with Col. Romy Palgue, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

A bugle and taps with a volley of 21-gun salute highlighted the event, followed by a commemorative message from Lacson. — NND
