The Philippine Red Cross remains unstoppable as it continues to provide vital services to the community in spite of the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

It inaugurated the new Negros Occidental-Bacolod City Chapter office in Silay City on June 17 to cater to and serve the most vulnerable in the community and nearby areas, particularly since these places are prone to flooding.

Rep. Francisco Benitez, PRC Silay City branch chairwoman Ruby Velez, and City Mayor Mark Golez led the opening of the PRC Negros-Silay Office recently.

PRC chairman and Senator Richard Gordon joined the program ceremony online and praised the chapter for opening an office in Silay.

The Negros chapter exists for 56 years now because of the commitment and dedication of the staff members and volunteers. These achievements were attained because of the strong partnerships within the province down to the local government and barangay level, the PRC said.

The new office establishment started in March 2021 with the appointment of the branch interim council, the scouting of the branch office, and the hiring of staff.

From 2021-2022, the branch plans to continue the construction of amenities at the acquired property, and the recruitment of volunteers.

The establishment of the new PRC Silay City branch is a testimonial that the Philippine Red Cross will always be in the forefront of reaching out to protect the life and dignity, especially of indigent Filipinos in vulnerable situations, it added. – MML
