Two more senior citizens succumb to COVID in NegOr

Two more senior citizens from Dumaguete City died from coronavirus disease in Negros Oriental.

Dr. Liland Estacion, head of the provincial Inter- Agency Task Force, said the 83-year-old female patient expired on Jan. 5 and a 71-year- old male died on before the New Year.

Both patients suffered from critical pneumonia and were confirmed COVID-19 positive, Estacion said in a press conference.

There are so far 30 COVID-19 deaths recorded in the province.

Close contacts of the latest casualties were placed under quarantine and they also underwent swab tests.

Estacion also reported 24 new cases on Wednesday.

These cases came from Sibulan, 6, and Siation, 5.

Other LGUs with new cases were Manjuyod with 4; Dumaguete City, 3 and Dauin, 2.

Five other LGUs have one new case each.

As of Jan. 7, 2020, there are 180 active cases in Negros Oriental.

Dumaguete City has 99 cases, and the patients are currently at the LGU’s isolation facility. Some are admitted in government and private hospitals.

LGUs outside of the capital city with active cases are Tanjay City with 18,  Sibulan 14, Siaton 10, Valencia 7, Manjuyod 5, Bayawan and Guihulngan 3 each, Ayungon and Bacong 2 each. Of the 1,008 total positive cases for the province since last year, 798 have recovered. – MML
