Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo visited on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Barangay Inolingan, an upland community, where she and her party were ambushed on April 25, 2019, two weeks before the local election was held.

Mayor Yulo held a dialogue with residents, who aired the need for potable water in portions of the village. She also distributed 110 sacks of rice to about 600 residents of the village.

“I’ve been wanting to revisit your barangay for some time to check on your welfare,” she said.

Yulo promised to check if there is a water source in the area which the local government can tap to address the problem aired by the residents.

At the same time, she urged them to plant and grow trees, as she underscored that “trees and water go together”.

Yulo was unharmed in the ambush but her brother, Councilor Jose Antonio Garcia, and nephew, Jose Marcelino, former ABC president, died due to gunshot wounds.

She won the mayoralty race, after garnering 13, 056 votes against the 5,493 votes of then incumbent mayor, Magdaleno Peña, whom she accused of being behind the ambush. Peña denied Yulo’s claims.

The bloody incident apparently prompted President Rodrigo Duterte, to visit the town. During the visit, Yulo sought the president’s help to ensure peace and order in the town.
